Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has had preliminary discussions with the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), regarding the prospective construction and operation of a natural gas-fired electric generating facility on a 108-acre site near Interstate 81 in the Atkins area of Smyth County, Virginia. The 700-megawatt plant would utilize air-cooled gas turbines in a combined cycle configuration. CPV has not yet submitted an air quality permit application to DEQ for this project.
