Beginner Paddler Route:

Gargathy Creek
Route Description:
Beginners can explore the waters along the shoreline of Gargathy Bay. About 7 miles. Launch at the Gargathy Landing boat ramp and turn left (Northwest) up Gargathy Creek. Follow the main channel as it winds through small residential areas and salt marsh ecosystems. There are a couple of tributary creeks that you can explore as conditions allow, and several good areas for birding and nature watching. Return to the boat ramp by retracing your path and be aware of powerboat traffic at all times. This is a trip that is best taken with consideration of the tidal currents as the main channel of the creek is well defined and thus has a strong tidal flow.

Intermediate and Advanced Paddler Route:

Gargathy to NASA Docks
Route Description:
Launch at the Gargatha Landing boat ramp and paddle across the creek. Turn Right (Southeast) when you get to the far side of the creek and follow it out into Gargathy Bay. Look for Gargathy Creek to turn off to the Left (Northeast). Follow Gargathy Creek out toward Metomkin Island and look for marker #60. Turn left (North) at marker #60 and follow the channel markers along Metomkin and Assawoman islands, and then paddle across Kegotank Bay. The channel will then wind through Northam Narrows. Look out for powerboat traffic in this area as they are limited to the narrow channel. At marker #27 turn Left (West) up Assawoman Creek and look for the NASA Dock on your left.
