Beginner Paddler Route:
Assawoman Creek
Route Description:
Beginners should paddle north and explore Assawoman Creek.
Launch at the NASA Dock boat ramp on Assawoman Creek. As you leave the boat ramp turn left (West) up the creek and follow the main channel as it meanders through maritime forest ecosystems. Keep an eye out for Osprey and other raptors as you paddle beneath the large stands of pine that line the creek. There are a couple of tributary creeks that you can explore as conditions allow, and several good areas for birding and nature watching. Return to the boat ramp by retracing your path and be aware of powerboat traffic at all times.

Intermediate and Advanced Paddler Route:

NASA Docks to Wisharts Point Landing
Route Description:
Advanced and Intermediate paddlers can follow the Waterway Coast of Virginia along Wallops Island. About 8 miles.
Launch at the NASA Dock boat ramp on Assawoman Creek. As you leave the boat ramp turn right and follow the creek out toward Womans Bay. Look for marker #27 and then beyond it to marker #24. Follow the markers across Womans Bay toward Wallops Island and proceed northward along its shoreline. As you enter Cat Creek you will see the Wallops Island causeway. Pass under the bridge and continue along Cat Creek. Follow the channel markers across Rogues Bay and look for marker #13 indicating the southern end of Island Hole Narrows. Paddle through the narrows and then turn left (West) at marker #2. Follow the markers in toward the mainland and look for the Wisharts Point boat ramp.
