Back Bay Restoration Foundation
Back Bay Restoration Foundation State of the Bay Conference
Project Description as Proposed:
In 2011, BBRF will host the 2011 Back Bay Forum
. Presenters from local, state, and federal agencies, non-profit and private enterprises with vested interest in Back Bay will be present to educate attendees on the subject of their latest environmental initiatives. The Project Manager will assist organizations with focus/format of presentations. Copies of the presentations will be placed on “Back Bay Forum 2011 CDs” and distributed to all participants. A one-hour lunch break will permit attendees to visit a variety of environmental education displays throughout the meeting room and in the lobby. Past Forums focused on historical research and studies conducted throughout the Back Bay watershed. Starting with the 2006 Back Bay Forum, the focus shifted to “Best Management Practices for the Back Bay Watershed” in an important environmental initiative to educate individuals about their role in restoring water quality. Surveys will request comments on future topics for the Foundation to focus on, as well as suggestions for 2012 Forum. In order to ensure that the Forum directly contributes to the restoration and protection of Back Bay, an Action Plan will be developed based on the survey results and will be used as a planning tool for future education and conservation projects. As a result of Action Plans developed during previous Forums, action items such as “encouraging networking of related interest groups”, “organizing workshops and hands-on restoration activities”, “developing and implementing pollution prevention programs”, and “expanding the Foundation’s educational mission” have been adopted. Outcomes from these action items have included sponsoring an information/outreach booth at a weekly farmer’s market, placing 180 storm drain markers in the Back Bay watershed, removing litter through an Adopt-a-Spot program, and mentoring students from the local Math and Science Academy.
