How to Join Core Activities Participating Supporting Organizations Virginia Green Suppliers Network

Virginia Green Supporting Organizations support the Virginia Green program wherever they can and encourage their memberships and customers to participate. If they have offices or stores, they are required to practice green activities there, too.  Supporting Organizations are the convention & visitor's bureaus, the hotel and B&B associations, tourism boards and divisions, chambers of commerce, and any other tourism-related organizations that want to help promote Virginia Green!

Virginia Green Supporting Organizations is a self-certifying program where organizations must verify that they are at a minimum practicing the Virginia Green Supporting Organizations core activities by providing the following:

  • Supporting Virginia Green: promote Virginia Green to your clients, members, and staff
  • Hold green meetings and conferences: provide recycling and reduce use of disposables - for ideas, please see the events fact-sheet
  • Recycle: have a recycling program in office space
  • Reduce solid waste:  work to reduce waste generation
  • Use water efficiently: have a plan to conserve water
  • Conserve energy: have a plan to use energy efficiently

Virginia Green Supporting Organizations are expected to at least have the core activities in place.  Participants are encouraged to tell us about any other green activities they have undertaken - and these are included in the facility's profile, which appears on our website.

How to Join

Joining is easy.  Membership in the program is FREE.  Simply complete the Virginia Green Supporting Organization application (MS Word or Adobe PDF) and email the completed checklist to VirginiaGreen@deq.virginia.gov.  Once you are approved, we will send you a certificate for display at your facility and list your facility below.  Your facility will also be included on the Virginia Tourism Corporation's website as a Virginia Green facility, if it is registered with them.

The application is a checklist of common-sense, good ideas for you to consider.  Please feel free to tell us about any other things you are doing to minimize your environmental impacts.  The great thing is that almost every activity on the list has the potential to save your facility money.

Participating Supporting Organizations

The Virginia Green Suppliers Network is now available. The network was launched to serve as a resource for Virginia Green participants that need green products and services. A Virginia Green Supplier is a business that provides "green" products and services to businesses in the hospitality sector - recycling vendors, grease filtering companies, vendors of bio-based food service products, companies that install photovoltaic panels, etc. Any business that wants to apply to the Virginia Green Suppliers Network must submit an explanation of the green product(s) or service(s) it provides.  The product(s) or service(s) should assist the Virginia Green participants meet the program requirements.
