Public involvement

Virginia citizens play an important role in the development of environmental regulations and other environmental decisions. Under the Virginia Administrative Process Act, DEQ takes specific steps to ensure that appropriate public notice is given when certain regulatory actions are proposed, and that the public has the opportunity to attend hearings and offer written comment on these proposed actions.

The Commonwealth offers extensive regulatory information on the Town Hall web site. These links provide details on existing regulations, the status of proposed regulations, comment periods and DEQ contacts for proposed regulations, and public meetings and hearings. The Town Hall regulatory information is listed under the citizen regulatory boards for air, water and waste issues, or under general DEQ issues.
