Virginia Poultry Waste Transfer Records
The Virginia Pollution Abatement Regulation and General Permit for Poultry Waste Management (9 VAC 25-630-10 et. seq.) requires that permitted poultry growers and poultry waste brokers keep records of transferred poultry waste. Additionally, end-users of poultry waste are required to keep records of waste transfers and land application of waste. The records must include the following:
- date of transfer
- total tons of waste transferred
- nutrient analysis of waste
- nearest town and zip code to the intended waste utilization site
- nearest waterbody to the intended waste utilization site
The regulation also requires the poultry grower or broker to provide the waste recipient with a copy of the waste analysis and fact sheet regarding proper use and storage of poultry waste.
Poultry waste brokers are also required to keep a record of the source of the poultry waste in their possession, the amount of poultry waste received from the source, and the date the poultry waste was acquired (see 9 VAC 25-630-60).
Copies of records kept by poultry growers are obtained by DEQ inspectors during inspections of the facilities. Copies of records kept by poultry waste brokers are required to be submitted to DEQ by February 15th every year.
Questions regarding poultry waste recordkeeping requirements, or data requests should be directed to Betsy Bowles.
