Elements of Solid Waste

The Elements of Virginia's Solid Waste Program document has been prepared as an overview of how the solid waste program and planning currently proceed under Virginia statutes and regulations. It was prepared in response to a request from the Waste Management Board for a planning document on solid waste management in Virginia. A draft was presented to the Board at their meeting on May 12, 2005, and the Board accepted the draft and authorized its posting. Public comments were accepted for 30 days and the document was finalized on August 30, 2005. DEQ's responses to the comments received are posted here.

Solid Waste Management Planning Regulations, Amendment 2

The Department has developed this web page to assist the cities, counties and towns of the Commonwealth in complying with the regulatory requirements related to the Solid Waste Planning and Recycling Regulations, Amendment 2 (9 VAC 20-130-10 et seq.) which became effective on November 28, 2007.  Items included are: a link to the current regulations (http://www.deq.state.va.us/waste/wastereg130.html); a section devoted to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and a list of the planning units that had submitted plans (Plan List) under the previous version of the Regulations, Regulations for Solid Waste Management and Planning, Amendment 1, which became effective on August 1, 2001.  Please contact Sanjay Thirunagari with any questions about the regulations or the amendment of an existing plan.
